Peers provide over $238,000 in legal services

SABA is proud to share that for the calendar year 2021, our Lawyer Referral Service attorneys provided an in-kind donation of over $238,933.50. The in-kind donation is calculated using the average San Antonio attorney rate and the grant hourly rate.

The in-kind donations are made through two grant programs run by the SABA LRS program. Since the mid-80's, the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) grant has paid the fees for reduced-rate legal services to our low-income older adult population. Attorneys who participate in this program agree to provide legal services at the rate of $50.00/hour. Referred clients are only responsible for legal expenses, filing fees, and court costs.

Beginning in 2020, a second grant was added to provide reduced-rate legal services to college students with a history of foster care. (Bexar County Fostering Educational Success – Housing First Program). Attorneys who participate in this program agree to provide legal services at the rate of $67.00/hour. Both attorney’s fees and legal expenses are covered by the grant funding.
