Dear Colleagues,
First, thank you for your work—day in and day out—and for your time as you consider the leadership for our San Antonio Bar. Serving on the Board of SABA has been an honor and opportunity to see first-hand the critical work of our San Antonio lawyers in our community day-in and day-out. Second, I respectfully request your vote. I would appreciate the opportunity to continue to bring a wide range of professional and personal experiences to help San Antonio lawyers success and thrive. My 27+ years of experience include: large firm litigation practice, serving cities' litigation and labor negotiation needs across Texas in a boutique law firm, and now serving in a leadership capacity in-house for our community with the City of San Antonio. I relish the opportunities clients and other lawyers afforded me. Born and raised in a small copper-mining town, I grew up watching hard work by women and men around me wearing steel-toe boots and hard hats. I was inspired by the discipline that drove my grandparents to get up in the morning, work overtime shifts and come home in ore-dusted boots and jeans—a work ethic driven by gratitude for the opportunity, love of family and commitment. That work ethic translated in my generation to less labor-intensive careers but with no less determination. Through my experiences, highs and lows, I understand a lawyer needs to evolve. Personal and professional responsibilities and priorities change over the arc a of career. As an integrated member of a 13,000 City Team, I actively seek out ways to support and develop those around me, lawyers and non-lawyers, to meet those needs. Meeting people where they are and addressing their needs leads to great outcomes for the community. I listen well and thoughtfully explore options for paths forward. Then, I work hard so that we can collectively make it happen. I hope to continue this same ethic, enthusiasm and support to earn your vote and earn the opportunity to work hard to advocate for your SABA needs—wherever you are in the arc of your career. I have been a long-standing member of the San Antonio Bar Association and was previously on the Board of Directors for the San Antonio Young Lawyers Association (SAYLA) for several years. I was also actively involved with the Texas Minority Counsel Program and served on the Steering Committee from 2014-2020 and I currently serve on the District 10 Grievance Committee. Through my participation in these organizations, I was able to increase participation and opportunities for various members of the State Bar in various legal organizations. I believe that my past leadership experience will allow me to further the mission of SABA and advocate for SABA. San Antonio is one of the fastest growing areas in Texas, and I believe that my active involvement in the San Antonio legal community will give me the ability to be an asset to the SABA Board and help increase participation in the Association. I have a strong interest in furthering the interests of the San Antonio Bar Association and the creation of new opportunities and networking for our local members. Growing up in San Antonio and practicing law here my entire career, I am deeply connected to our vibrant legal community. It would be an honor to serve and give back to the city that has shaped me. For over 20 years, I have dedicated my career to advocating for justice and providing strategic legal guidance. I thrive on new challenges and have had the privilege of practicing in diverse roles, including Commercial Litigation Partner at Jackson Walker, Compliance Executive at USAA, General Counsel of a local franchisor, and now as founder of my own law firm. My achievements and resilience in overcoming challenges are thanks to the incredible support of this legal community, my peers, mentors and sponsors. In turn, I am committed to giving back, focusing on the underserved, particularly women and children. Since 2016, I have championed the careers of women attorneys through my roles as a founding member, Director and Steering Committee Member of the LEAD Academy. I also advocate for children in the child protective system as a Board Member of Texas CASA, Inc. I believe I would bring a unique perspective to the SABA Board. After clerking for Justice Marialyn Barnard on the Fourth Court of Appeals from 2010-2011, my husband (Christopher) and I decided we wanted to start our family. As he was an associate at Cox Smith at the time, I couldn't see a path forward with both of us beginning these new demanding careers and having children. I looked for alternatives that would offer a little more flexibility and luckily a position in administration at my alma mater came open. While at St. Mary's Law, I was able to keep my toe in the legal field and also build an incredible network of alumni and friends across the country. After 10 years at St. Mary's Law, our girls were now old enough that I could finally get back into the practice of law. So in 2022 (and in my late 30s!) I decided to finally start my practice. It has been both challenging and rewarding a the same time, but I am so glad I made the leap. As I've said before, my career path has not been linear, but it has served me well. From my experience working at the Fourth Court of Appeals, to my work at St. Mary's Law creating lasting relationships with judges, attorneys and legal professionals, to now practicing law and helping younger attorneys engage with the San Antonio Bar, I believe I can offer the San Antonio legal community something fresh and new and I would be honored to join this prestigious Board.
