The State Bar of Texas annual meeting was hosted in Dallas June 20-21 and an enthusiastic group of San Antonio lawyers attended, presented and were recognized for their contributions. The SBOT-Hispanic Issues Section recognized the Mexican American Bar Assn-San Antonio (MABA) for Outstanding Community Involvement. SABA members recognized at the SBOT Bar Leaders Luncheon include authors Steve Peirce and ileta! Sumner, for their contributions to the SA Lawyer® magazine. Jim Bethke received the Warren Burnett Award, which recognizes extraordinary contributions to improving the quality of indigent Texans' criminal defense representation.

Sara Dysart was sworn in as the Chair of the Texas Bar Foundation Fellows and Judge Fred Biery was presented the Samuel Pessarra Outstanding Jurist Award at the black-tie Foundation gala. Santos Vargas was sworn in as the President-elect for the SBOT for the upcoming year.  Save the date for June 19-20, 2025, when the State Bar of Texas hosts the annual meeting in San Antonio at the JW Marriott Hill Country.
