236 attorneys zoomed in Thursday, July 9, 2020 for the Probate Court Town Hall Webinar. The Town Hall was organized and moderated by the SABA Probate Court Committee leadership, Vice-Chair Shawn Hughes and Chair Patty Vargas.
Bexar County Clerk Lucy Adame-Clark and Chief Deputy Priscilla Hernandez provided an update on Procedures they have changed to accommodate the public and attorneys during Covid-19; efforts by the Clerk’s office to keep the work flow of pleadings moving while still providing a safe environment for attorneys, staff and the public; and an update on the new County Clerk’s Case Management system “Odyssey.”
Probate Court Clerk Supervisor Melissa Trevino provided an update on the Probate Clerk’s office including their work on the File360 Document Management system and guidance regarding the new Citation by Publication rules found in §51.054 of the Estates Code that went into effect on July 1, 2020 requiring publishing citation on the Office of Court Administration’s’ website in addition to citation being published in a newspaper of general circulation in the County.
Judge Oscar Kazen, Probate Court 1 and Judge Veronica Vasquez, Probate Court 2 provided an update on protocol, expectations and best practices regarding virtual hearings, witnesses, pleadings, exhibits and testimony. Probate Court Staff attorneys Michelle Casillas and Martin Collins provided an update on Court Procedures, legal updates, best practices and “Quick Reference” contact sheets for the Probate Courts.
