THOMAS J. ”TOMMY” SMITH IS THE 2020 RECIPIENT OF THE SAN ANTONIO BAR ASSOCIATION’S OUTSTANDING LAWYER AWARD, THE JOE FRAZIER BROWN, SR. AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
Thomas J. ”Tommy” Smith is the 2020 recipient of the San Antonio Bar Association’s Outstanding Lawyer Award, the Joe Frazier Brown, Sr. Award of Excellence.
“We typically celebrate our legal community and present awards each September at the annual Gala Benefit and Awards. Under current conditions, it was prudent to cancel the 2020 Gala but the Board of Directors did not want to skip a year in awarding Outstanding Lawyer - especially when you consider our tremendous community of talented San Antonio attorney leaders.” reported SABA President, Tom Crosley.
“We’ve presented the SABA Outstanding Lawyer – the Joe Frazier Brown Sr. Award of Excellence for 26 years. It is a great honor that we add Tommy Smith to this roster of deserving and distinguished honorees. We look forward to recognizing him and his contributions to San Antonio’s legal, business and civic community at the August Annual SABA Members Luncheon and again at next year’s 2021 Gala.”
Do you have a share-worthy story of Tommy “in action”? We’d be delighted to hear them. Please send stories to June Moynihan, Executive Director at JuneM@sabar.org.
How does SABA share the news with awardees?
A little trickery! Tommy thought he was teaching Sara Dysart how to use zoom for mediation. The mediation “clients” started to arrive, and he was delighted to see his wife Susan, friends and bar leaders. Tommy didn’t become suspicious until his Atlanta-based son, Ben, appeared and SABA President Tom Crosley quickly shared the good news. Tommy declared he was “Speechless!”
